                 Grand Teton National Park

Working in any National Park is a privilege. Jackson Lake Lodge is an International Style Hotel originally designed by Gilbert Stanley Underwood 1955 in Grand Teton National Park.

The entire structure is made of exposed wood grain textured concrete. I was involved in two major expansions of the facility. One of the projects consisted of a new addition / renovation that doubled their convention room facilities. The greatest challenge on this project was that all construction had to occur during their six month fall to spring closure period.  The team had to anticipate each others needs in order to adapt to intense snowfall and temperatures while maintaining budget+schedule.

The design needed to comply with SHIPO requirements to integrate with the existing character of the building by using similar materials and construction methods because it was going to be registered as a National Historic Landmark.

The resort was also considering expanding their season of operation into the winter.  I performed a "Winterization Study" on fifty existing buildings.  This involved cost analysis and comparison of building systems to upgrade the uninsulated underperforming structures.

DARING
Challenge each other to uncover solutions that exceed expectations. Invention can arise from a unique inner vision.

PURE
Building materials define the character of spaces.  Stone, wood, metal and glass can be used in an honest way that does not try to replicate or imitate.

GREEN
